Scythian Announces Inaugural Appaloosa Music Festival, Labor Day Weekend

(Front Royal, VA) Washington, D.C.’s hometown band, Scythian, is hosting Appaloosa, their inaugural roots-based music festival, this Labor Day weekend. Appaloosa, a Music and Great Outdoors Experience, will be held September 5 & 6, just one hour from Washington, D.C., in Front Royal, VA.  The venue is Skyline Ranch Resort, nestled among the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail.

In addition to host band Scythian, Appaloosa is headlined by mandolin virtuoso Sierra Hull, eight-time International Bluegrass Music Association Award nominee, Mipso, North Carolina’s “renegade traditionalist” bluegrass quartet, Possessed by Paul James, who the New York Times calls the “one man folk wonder”, and local favorite Marie Miller, who is one of the few musicians selected to play for the pope for his upcoming U.S. visit in September.

Appaloosa has been featured as one of “Ten Virginia Music Festivals In September You Need To Attend” by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. 10% of festival profits will go to charity, and the main beneficiaries are the Little Sisters of the Poor, and the local VFW Post 1860, being rebuilt after a recent fire.

Appaloosa features 25 bands, including some of the most critically acclaimed up-and-coming artists from around the country, playing bluegrass, Americana, Celtic, folk, country, and more. There will be multiple stages and a beer garden, as well as late night jams on Saturday and Sunday nights.

The musical lineup for Appaloosa is Scythian, Sierra Hull, Mipso, Marie Miller & L’Angelus, Possessed by Paul James, The Accidentals, Karikatura, Tom McBride, Bud’s Collective, this mountain, Danny Burns Band, Kevin Heider Band, Hope and Justin, Low Water Bridge, Vinyl Tracks, Ben-David Warner, Miss Shevaughn & Yuma Wray, Kenny Kohlhaas, Hillbilly Thomists, Little Hill Trio, Dan Arnold & the Swingin’ Standards, Patrick Mahon, Dear Other, and the Boyle School of Irish Dance.  Appaloosa’s musical talent has been featured by NPR, Huffington Post, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, UK Telegraph, and Billboard Magazine, among others.

This family-friendly festival offers on-site camping, horseback riding, a petting zoo, fishing pond, playground, mini-golf, and more. The venue is just a few miles from the main entrance to Shenandoah National Park with great rafting, canoeing, hiking, and biking nearby. Appaloosa sponsors include Virginia Eagle Distributing, Starr Brewery, Fado Irish Pub, Rappahannock Cellars, Larry’s Coffee, State Farm, Ramada Inn, and the Birthplace of Country Music.
